I had a second showing on a new listing this week, and the buyers loved the home the first time they looked at it, but the next day they sent feedback that said they house smells like a wet dog. What happened in between the showings? The owner had the carpets cleaned, and the impact on the smell of the house was dramatic. The process seems to give the house are really musty odor like a wet dog, three days late it was back to normal. Unfortunately a lot of potential buyers have been through the home when it smelled bad.
I know that scents and aromas can have a dramatic impact on people’s emotions, otherwise, there wouldn’t be a multi-billion-dollar fragrance industry. He’s already moved out, so he’s planning to spend some time this week to find the cause and eliminate it. But it looks like we may have lost a sale because he didn’t get this done before we listed the house like I asked he to do.
