The Crime Rate in Franklin was down 6.8 percent in 2011 compared to 2012 according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s 2011 “Crime in Tennessee” report. Of course the Franklin police are quick to point to a lot of initiatives that they say could have contributed to this, but crime rates in almost every area of the country that allow private citizens to have a handgun carry permit are down. It’s also notable that even though the crime rate in Franklin is down, it’s 58% higher than it’s neighbor to the north Brentwood.

Great post, Larry. It’s interesting that the crime rate in Franklin is significantly higher than in Brentwood. Any ideas on why that’s the case, and what type of crime it is? Regardless, great to see these numbers going down!
I would guess that the Mall brings a lot of opportunities for theft, and Franklin has apartments, with lots of cars parked outside, more opportunities. Brentwood is isolated from both of those problem areas. Franklin has a higher crime rate compared to Brentwood, but it’s still a lot lower than the state average, and Nashville.
