Waylon Jennings will be celebrated in Leiper’s Fork Friday and Saturday, Aug. 27 and 28 for his significant contributions to country music.
The celebration kicks off at dusk Friday, Aug. 27 at the Lawnchair Theatre as Jailhouse Industrys present the 1986 classic film, “Stagecoach,” starring Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash and John Schneider. A short documentary on Jennings will precede the movie.
On Saturday Aug. 28, Waylon Jennings Day offers an all-day celebration with all things Jennings. The local Restaurants will feature Waylon’s favorite dishes from the new cookbook, “Cooking Waylon’s Way,” authored by Jessi Colter and Maureen Rafferty. Live music during the afternoon will be performed by Serenite Maison, and a Waylon Museum will be set up in the Leiper’s Creek Gallery. Waylon’s guitars, awards, art and memorabilia will be displayed along with his Cadillac.
A free concert will begin at 6 p.m. at the Lawnchair Theatre. with performances include Buddy Holly’s legendary band, The Crickets, comprised of J.I. Allison, Joe B Mauldin and Sonny Curtis, opening the show and Waymore’s Outlaws with The Waylors and Waymore Blues Band members along with their Special Friends performing Waylon’s hits from the 1960s to the year 2000. Some of their Special Friends joining them on stage to celebrate his life and music are Jessi Colter, Rodney Crowell, Tony Joe White, Bonnie Bramlett and Carters Chord.
