Brentwood property taxes can really make a big difference when comparing prices of homes in other states. The city of Brentwood has managed to keep city property taxes at the same rate for 21 years, and this year voted to lower the tax rate by 10 percent. Why does it matter? On the day they did this, I was showing Brentwood homes to a couple planning to relocate from Buffalo N.Y., and because they have 4 school age children, they really wanted to get the best public schools available. Of course if you real this blog very often, you know that the best public schools in Tennessee are in Brentwood, so that’s where we started.
Back to the tax issue. I asked the client about property taxes in Buffalo, and he said that buying a $450,000 home in Brentwood will save him over $5000 per year in property taxes compared to the same price home Buffalo. Any way you look at it, the financial savings help, you can have the same house payment and spend an additional $100,000 on the home, or buy the same price home and save the money. Then I asked him if he thought that he was getting anything for the taxes he was paying. He laughed and said compared to Brentwood it really didn’t seem like he was. Nothing in his community could compare favorably to Brentwood, but it cost him almost 3 times as much in taxes, and they keep increasing the rates on a regular basis.
